Realistic Pokemon Sketches: Fire Final Evolutions by ReneCampbellArt Realistic Pokemon Sketches: Fire Final Evolutions by ReneCampbellArt
Fire Pocketmanz.

Charizard: My favourite of all starters, because it's a dragon. However, I didn't want to go all out European dragon/dinosaur or too lizard like for this guy, and so I tried to fuse some of those aspects together to get something a little less generic but with all the aspects of a dragon badass that it is.

Typhlosion: Mix of the Honey Badger and Wolverine. Typhlosion is a quadruped, but is easily bipedal. However, it's so often depicted as a biped I thought it would be refreshing to put it down on all fours (although this version can easily walk on two legs). The flames on it's back are superheated quills.

Blaziken: The hardest but the most fun to redesign. Blaziken looks way too humanoid and Digimon-like in the canon (cough Birdramon cross Agunimon anyone?) and I needed to stray from an anthro looking creature. Based on a Shamo Cockfighting ChickenSecretary Bird and the Cochin Chicken for fluffy legs. Edited the leg anatomy too, from Plantigrade to Digitigrade, looks way more natural.

Infernape: Not an ape, it has a tail. So based it on Old World Monkeys such as Langurs and Macaques. In the wild they're naturally found with yellow swilrs on their bodies, but many trainers add traditional gold braces to protect them in martial arts. Looked cool that way.

Emboar: Tried making this guy bipedal with massive arms, looked stupid. So my version is on all fours. Based on a Wild Boar and the prehistoric Daedon (which was massive). Again, they're found with natural golden swirls on their fur, but usually have a metal belt attached, probably for fighting or tradition.

whenever i look at blaziken, i see his chicken wings and legs being switched, so his "legs" are like a chickens wings, and his "arms" are the claws of the chicken, so, not to disaprove, but i dont think that blazikens legs should be all crooked like and have that backwards knee claw.
but you are a good artist! and im not in position to judge, its your concept, but i'm just saying

Considering Blaziken is based on a Cockfighting chicken (and raptors), it's legs are not 'backwards' at all. Birds are digitigrades, so that 'backwards knee' is actually the ankle! The problem with Blaziken is that Blaziken has humanoid anatomy (plantigrade) in its limbs. Here's an example. Also, the legs and arms of a chicken being 'switched' doesn't make much sense really, given the anatomy. The last thing that I wanted to do was much Blaziken a humanoid chicken because that seems way too farfetched for me. I've seen some pretty cool realistic interpretations of Blaziken that do retain humanoid anatomy, but it still makes little sense given its pre-evolutions.

thanks for the picture for the ankle, i just really didnt know what to name it ^^
but if you think about it, my theory about the wings being legs and the legs being arms, because Blazikens arms are bare and , if you think about, do quite look like the legs of chickens. then the legs of Blaziken are feathered and... this expresion is most likely wrong and please correct me.... "floppy" (even i have to facepalm myself -_-) like a chickens wing. but, it is still your concept of realistic pokemon and i dont wish to discourage your work, cause you are a really good artist

That's fine, I understand where you're coming from. Blaziken's arms and legs are still digitgrade though, regardless of whether they're feathered or not. To swap the anatomy around would mean to put feathered arms where the legs would be, and bare legs where the wings would be (which makes no sense really). Instead, I just made the legs really feathered (ever seen a bantom chicken?), and the arms more bare like a raptor's to kind of tackle that issue :) Everyone has different interpretations to how Pokémon look realistically, just thought I'd try and explain the design process behind mine!

well, when i look at pictures of blaziken from the anime and the game, if you ask me they dont look digitgraded at all. the elbows are out and so are the knees, but if you're just talking about chickens in general, i'm spot on.
if your not, and just talking about the anatomy of a blaziken, i beg to differ about blaziken being digitgrade. technically he's not a chicken at all, cause his pokedex classifies him as a "blaze pokemon", although he is based off of a cockfighting chicken and a pheonix. but i did look it up, and his legs do resemble a cochin chicken.

Yes, you're right. Blaziken is plantigrade in the game art, not digitigrade. But all birds in life are digitigrade (and many bird-like Pokémon are as well), and since this is a realistic interpretation of Blaziken, that's why I went for a more animal-like approach. 'Blaze Pokémon' means nothing to me, as do most Pokémon species names. For example, Blastoise is the 'Shellfish' Pokémon, but it's certainly not an Oyster (Shellfish) of any kind. See what I mean? I do rigorous studies looking at the Pokémon's design and what they are based on, and to me, Blaziken being humanoid whilst its pre-evolutions are clearly very chicken like doesn't make a lot of sense. So I take liberties for Pokémon that are clearly animals early on and then somehow evolve into human-anthros. An example includes my interpretations of the Kalos starters.

If you want your giant human chicken to have human legs and arms, then go ahead. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Blaziken should have been more like a raptor

I based Blaziken on many raptor birds (especially the Secretary Bird) and also cockfighting chickens, so it technically is. Unless you mean prehistoric dinosaur raptors, then I disagree.
